🎬 Join us for a free Award Winning documentary film screening of "Canaries in a Cold War" followed by Q&A with an expert panel event.
At the beginning of 2021, singer-songwriter and human rights activist James H. White sets out for Washington, DC to write a song in protest of the Beijing Winter Olympics. After hearing the gut-wrenching story of three sisters who were tortured in China, he flies across the Atlantic to talk with several experts, hoping to shed light on the stories he heard from the three sisters.
As he explores the topic, he discovers that what happened to the three sisters, and millions more like them, goes way beyond the human rights of one group, and way beyond the borders of China. The deeper he digs, the broader, and more sinister of a spectre is revealed to him - one that seems to underlie everything, from COVID to media censorship, politics and entertainment.
Featuring insights from the world’s leading human rights experts, lawyers, and heart-breaking interviews with those whom survived, the year-long journey circles back to where it all started, where James faces a stark realisation.
We welcome you to an eye-opening screening followed by an expert-led Q&A session, featuring Madeleine Bridgett (Human Rights Barrister & Panel Host), David Matas (International Human Rights Lawyer), Carolyn Kitto (Director of Be Slavery Free), Ramila Chanisheff (Advocate for Uyghurs) and Adelia Tang (Survivor of Persecution).

The Art of Zhen Shan Ren is an international group exhibition which has toured over 40 countries. For the first time, this exquisite exhibition lands in Surry Hills.
Join us for the official opening night on Thursday, 25th June form 6:00pm - 7:30pm!
The artwork is a unique blend of Eastern and Western classical art that inspires and moves the soul. This group exhibition offers a glimpse into a world of inner beauty and courage that is inspired by the spiritual practice of Falun Dafa and its universal values of Zhen (Truthfulness) Shan (Compassion) and Ren (Forbearance).
There will also be the opportunity to meet one of the contributing artists, Zhang Cuiying and hear the stories and inspiration behind the works on display! This opportunity will be on Saturday, 27th June from 1:00pm - 3:00pm. Visitors are invited to ask questions, explore the themes of the exhibition, and celebrate the artist’s vision in a welcoming and vibrant atmosphere.
